Microbiology and Food Hygiene Group
The Microbiology and Food Hygiene Group of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Lorestan University, which functioned as one of the departments of the Pathobiology Group of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine until 2012, was separated from the Pathobiology Group after establishing a Ph.D. program in Bacteriology in a cooperative plan with the University of Tehran (Professor Gholamreza Nikbakht Boroujeni) and Urmia (Professor Abdolghaffar Oonagh) and through the efforts of esteemed professors Dr. Ehsan Rashidian, Dr. Nemat Shams, and Dr. Amin Jaidari. The first head of the Microbiology Group was Dr. Nemat Shams, and after him, and currently, Dr. Peyman Khademi is in charge of the group.
The postgraduate courses of this group include 2 courses as follows:
1- Ph.D. program in Bacteriology was approved in 2023 and launched in 2024. Currently, this course has 9 students. Of these, 2 students were admitted based on the professor-oriented model and 1 student with a brilliant talent quota.
2- Master's program in Bacteriology admitted students in 2012.
In addition to managing, planning, and holding the mentioned postgraduate courses, the Microbiology and Food Hygiene Group directs the teaching of relevant courses in the professional Ph.D. of Veterinary Medicine and Bachelor of Laboratory Sciences and the conduct of student projects and theses.
The scientific capabilities of the Microbiology and Food Hygiene Group are as follows:
Routine bacteriological cultures for the diagnosis of pathogenic bacteria of livestock, poultry, aquatic animals, and honeybees
- Molecular methods for the diagnosis of bacteria using PCR and Nested PCR and qPCR
- Investigating the effect of natural substances on bacteria
- Bacterial counting in food
- Culture of pathogenic fungi of livestock and other animals
- Molecular diagnosis of fungi
- Molecular diagnosis of pathogenic viruses of livestock, poultry, and aquatic animals
- Serological diagnosis of diseases
- Molecular diagnosis of emerging and re-emerging agents
- Molecular diagnosis of tick-borne agents
