Clinical Sciences
The "Doctor of Veterinary Medicine" program, in accordance with the regulations approved by the Supreme Council for Planning, is divided into two stages: "Pre-Clinical" and "Clinical." The duration of study typically spans six academic years. Students in this field, after completing the coursework of the first stage over 7 semesters and passing the comprehensive pre-clinical examination, are granted permission to enter the clinical sciences program. The primary objective in the clinical sciences stage is for students to acquire clinical and diagnostic skills. In the clinical stage, students, by completing units in the fields of clinical medicine, anesthesia, surgery, laboratory methods, diagnostic imaging, obstetrics, and reproductive diseases, gain the necessary skills and proficiency in clinical diagnoses and therapeutic interventions on sick animals.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Lorestan University, after recruiting faculty members with specializations in surgery, obstetrics and reproductive diseases, large animal diseases, poultry diseases, and clinical pathology, and with the opening of the specialized veterinary hospital in October 2016, facilitated the access of students in this field to sick animals, thereby providing the conditions for achieving the educational goals of the clinical sciences program.
After completing their clinical courses and internships in the faculty's specialized veterinary hospital alongside the professors of each department, students acquire the necessary ability to prepare a complete history of the sick animal, perform complete clinical examinations, conduct and interpret laboratory diagnostic tests, differential diagnosis, final diagnosis of the disease, prescription writing, and provide the required treatment plan. It is during this period that the student learns how to establish verbal and effective communication with the animal's owner, colleagues, and other professionals in the veterinary field.
